Life’s Onion: A Review of the Latest Therapy Tool

A colleague and friend of mine, Ilene Glance, started promoting a new tool called Life’s Onion.  For anyone who knows Ilene, she is an extremely resourceful therapist and is usually up on all the latest information and technology.  I decided to look over the blogposts and website for Life’s Onion and order one myself.  Here is my review of the product.

Ordering the product online was pretty easy and can be done at their website here:

It was shipped to me right away and it was to be delivered within 2-3 days, which is a bonus because when I order things online I want them right away, of course.  The packaging was secure and in a sturdy box.  The product was in there, as well as a guide on how to implement it.  The instructions were adamant about using a “Sharpie”.  Is Life’s Onion an affiliate for Sharpie?  If not, they could be!

I decided to use it with a younger client I have been working with and I did mine in session with them.  I won’t share about the client’s experience; rather I will share my experience and what I got out of it.

As a naturally curious person, I pulled all of the leaves off right away and started examining the product and postulating what I was going to do with this thing.  I decided to write things I want in my life or words that I connect with.  With no rhyme or reason, I started writing my words down on each petal.  I had to cheat and check out a recent picture a fellow therapist posted for some positive words.  Once I was done, I looked at all the words and felt really happy with my choices.

From there, I put it all back together.  It was surprisingly easy to put them back into the main base.  When it was complete, I decided it was perfect and would sit on my bookshelf as a reminder for me to continue to focus on what I want in life.  I plan to have my clients do something similar and keep it with them to look at in times of distress or when they need some inspiration.

Overall, I love this tool for therapy clients.  I think teenagers would really like it because I have found that teens enjoy doing projects and activities in therapy.  It’s an interesting concept to introduce, especially with depressed and anxious clients, who need consistent reminders to remain focused on their goals and the positivity in their lives.
