Building a 6-Figure Private Practice

When I offered to do a webinar for the Florida Mental Health Counseling Association about building a 6-figure private practice the ink was barely dried from my accountant indicating that I hit that mark.  For me, the gold seal of approval for therapists was hitting the 6-figure mark.  It signifies something about reaching an income goal.  Going into my 4th year of practice, I’ve realized that I get to define what being successful means.  One of the things that defines success for me right now is that I get to take off Fridays and still reach my income goals.  For you, it might mean getting your first consistent client.  It might look like hitting 6- figures.  It might look like getting a book deal and making a million dollars.  That’s the fun part of being a therapist and an individual, you get to decide what success means to you.

Given what I just wrote, the webinar information is based on my experience and what worked and didn’t work for me.  The webinar is broken up into sections and I highlight social media, multiple streams of income and the business of going into private practice.  Towards the beginning of the video, a poll is taken and people were most interested in learning about multiple streams of income.  This is probably my smallest section.

This is an area that I am working on building, especially around passive income.  Therapists can only sell so many hours in a week.  Therefore, an exciting venture is to learn ways to create passive income.  This has inspired me to do more blogposts on my experience with passive income and multiple streams of income so be on the look-out for that.

Whether you are getting ready to start a private practice, building up your practice or a seasoned professional, this video will teach you about social media practices, ideas for multiple streams of income and tips and tools I used in order to build up my practice.  Happy viewing!

Comment below on what else you would like to learn about going into private practice.  I’m looking for fresh ideas for blogposts.

  1. Wonderful Video. I learned so much!!!
I’m truly thinking of having someone build my website…i’s a lot of work.

  2. Please tell me where to begin. I just became a LMHC but have been in counseling for a few years now. Am I legally able to start my own practice. If so, what do I need to do next?

    1. Yes! If you are licensed in your area, you are able to start a practice. You can register with your state as a business so you can open your practice.
